What do you do when the baby name you love is also the most popular name around?
Some parents have no problem picking a name that sits at the very top of the baby name lists, but others may worry about their child one day being one of a dozen little Aidens and Emmas running around the playground.
For 6 years in a row, Sophia has nabbed the #1 spot on BabyCenter's annual baby name ranking. A beautiful Greek name meaning "wisdom," Sophia has been in the top 10 for the past decade, and is clearly a favorite among expectant parents.
If you love the name Sophia, but are trying to find something a little less common, there's hope!
Here are some equally lovely options that have the same feel as Sophia, but aren't quite as familiar.
I love just about every name on that list.
This is a problem I actually did face when trying to find the perfect name for my daughter. The name Emily was always in the back of my mind as the one I'd probably pick if I ever had a little girl. I've loved it for as long as I can remember. Of course, when the time finally did come it turned out a whole lot of other parents loved the name Emily, too.
The obvious alternative, Emma, was equally popular, so in the end we settled on Amelia. It was the perfect choice -- though I wasn't all that thrilled to see that it, too, broke into the top 10 last year!
